This game aims at opening up discussions about performing and watching performances. The focus is on scores as the hinge between what performers do (their activity during the performance) and what the performance does (what experience, thoughts, etc. it produces in the audience).
1. watch a performance (the video of a performance) 2. discuss and write the score for this performance (score = the necessary information for someone else to be able to perform the piece) 3. write what the performance does (in your perception) 4. write and perform another score - find another way of materializing the same intentions/ideas - use the same choreographic tools/strategies in order to materialize other intentions/ideas
Score/Statement/Score Step 1) Select a score for a performance or a practice. It can be pre-existing, created from a practice or choreography you are familiar with, or original. Step 2) Formulate 10 statements that are derived/extracted from this score. Eg, expose ideology, interest, perspective Step 3) Write a new score based on these 10 statements. Step 4) Do the same in the reverse order meaning statements to score to statements.
Statement game fuse and reduce
Everybody writes 10 statements about a common subject in the mentioned form. When finished, you give these statements to another person (suggesting rotation system) and recieve 10 more from someone else.
Everybody now creates scores on these statements.
Once these scores are done, you read out the different ones. Possibly there are scores that connect. Figure out a way to fuse them. Try hard to fuse the scores, so that you have less than before. Try them out now. You might also try them out first and find connections and possible fusions afterwards.
Each one now chooses a score to write 10 statements upon. Pass the statements again to another person and write a new score upon them.
Continue the game until you fused statements and scores as much as possible.
